Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening is faster, more effective, and longer lasting then treatments you find over the counter. There are also many over the counter products that could work for certain individuals better than others. Teeth can stain and darken overtime. Some common reasons for staining are: natural aging processes, staining foods, such as coffee, tea, red wine, etc. Some teeth are formed with naturally darker shades or areas that are demineralized (chalky looking). These teeth are less likely to whiten or brighten. However, every mouth and tooth is different. Today we are lucky to have many options on the market for teeth whitening that can address even the toughest stains. If you are interested in whitening, please bring up your concerns with us and we will work with you to meet every individual’s needs.

In-office Whitening

This procedure usually requires anywhere from 30min- 1.5 hours in the office. Chair time all depends on the degree of staining and the product we think will work best for you. We typically use a certain strength of hydrogen peroxide and allow the chemical to work as you sit and relax. We compare shades before and after so you can see your results immediately. We recommend avoiding staining foods thereafter to maintain your white, bright smile. In-office whitening uses a stronger concentration of the whitening chemical and it is typical to experience temporary post-op sensitivity. We recommend sensitive toothpaste to help with this before and after whitening.

Procedure

  1. Clean and polish teeth
  2. Isolate cheeks, lips, gums from the whitening agent
  3. Apply whitening agent to the teeth
  4. Whitening agent is left on teeth for 30-60 min
  5. Teeth and gums are rinsed and gently brushed
  6. Compare shades from before and after
